Edge bonding adds composite only to the biting edges, rebuilding chips and evening out the line your front teeth make when you smile. It is quick, reversible and drill free.
It is the natural finishing step after aligners, when the teeth are straight but the edges still show their history.

Where a composite veneer covers the whole front of the tooth, edge bonding adds composite only to the incisal edge, the part that does the biting and that catches the eye when the edges are uneven. Chips from an accident, edges worn flat by grinding, a tooth that is slightly shorter than its neighbour, or the small irregularities that remain after aligner treatment are all corrected with a few millimetres of composite, shaped and polished to match.
Because so little material is used, edge bonding is quick, needs no anaesthetic and preserves the natural character of the tooth. It is often the final step of a smile makeover: aligners straighten, whitening brightens, and edge bonding refines.

Edge bonding: your questions answered
What is the difference between edge bonding and a composite veneer?
Edge bonding treats only the biting edge to correct small chips or uneven lengths. A composite veneer layers the whole front surface for larger changes in shape, colour or gaps.
Is edge bonding done after aligners?
Very often. Aligners move the teeth into position, and edge bonding then evens the edges that were worn or chipped while the teeth were crooked. It is usually done once whitening is complete.
Does edge bonding need drilling or injections?
No. The tooth is cleaned and conditioned, and the composite is added. There is nothing to numb.
How long does edge bonding last?
Three to five years is typical, and because the pieces are small they are quick to refresh or repair. A night guard helps if you grind.
