How it works
How aligners move teeth
Each aligner is made from your 3D scan and differs from the last by a fraction of a millimetre. Worn for around 22 hours a day, the series walks your teeth into position one small step at a time.
They lift out to eat and to clean, and most people forget they are wearing them within a few days.

How clear aligners work
Each aligner is made from a digital plan of your teeth and applies gentle, specific pressure to particular teeth. You wear each set for about a week, twenty to twenty two hours a day, taking them out only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. Week by week the teeth move along the planned path until they reach their final position.
Because the plan is made from a 3D scan, you see a simulation of the finished result before you commit, including how many aligners you will need and where small tooth coloured attachments will sit to help the movement. Aligners treat crowding, spacing, open bites, crossbites, narrow smiles and large overjets; each case is subject to assessment and limited by complexity.
Remote monitoring means you scan your own teeth with your phone between appointments, so review visits drop to one or two across the whole treatment and problems are caught early. Aligners are often the first step of a wider smile plan, creating the foundation for whitening and edge bonding.

Consultation
A smile assessment and full examination, including how your teeth bite together and the position, shape, colour and size of each tooth. Photographs and a 3D scan are taken.

Your digital plan
Dr Kal designs the movement with the planning team and shows you a simulation of the finished smile, the number of aligners and the timeline.
- 03
Fitting
Small tooth coloured attachments are placed where needed, your first four to six weeks of aligners are fitted, and you are shown how to insert, remove and clean them. No injections.
- 04
Treatment
Change aligners as planned, scan your teeth from home with your phone, and attend one or two reviews. Movement is visible from the first weeks.
- 05
Refinement and finish
Any final adjustments are made with refinement aligners, then whitening and edge bonding complete the smile if they are part of your plan.
- 06
Retention
Removable retainers worn full time for six months, then nightly. A fixed retainer wire is added in specific cases.

Will clear aligners work for me?
Advances in aligner treatment mean most crowding, spacing, open bites, crossbites, narrow smiles and large overjets can be treated. Every case is subject to a clinical assessment, and the digital plan shows you exactly what is achievable before you commit.
Does it hurt?
Pressure and tenderness for a day or two after each new aligner are normal and are a sign the teeth are moving. It is rare for patients to need pain relief. Fitting the attachments involves no injections.
How long does treatment take?
Around six months on average. Simple movements can be finished in as little as eight weeks; complex cases take longer. You start to notice movement within the first week or two.
How often do I need to come in?
With remote monitoring you scan your teeth at home with your phone, which reduces review visits to one or two across the treatment. More complex or longer cases may need a few more.
Can I straighten just the top teeth?
Both arches are usually treated together for the best functional and aesthetic result. Single arch treatment is possible in specific cases and is priced from £2,500.
How soon can I start?
Typically about three weeks from your consultation to your first aligner, provided your mouth is healthy. Any decay or gum problems are treated first.
What happens when I finish?
You receive removable retainers to wear full time for about six months, then at night for life, because teeth drift without them. In some cases a thin fixed wire behind the front teeth is added for extra security.
